October 2003 | Volume No.4 | Issue No.10 Securitas Hosts Open House, Honors Officers On Monday, October 6, the BID's Safety Patrol Team, operated by Securitas Inc., hosted an Open House at the field office, 6775 Santa Monica Blvd. The purpose of the Open House was for members of the business community to be able to meet our team and ask any questions they had regarding security.
All team members were present including Ken Nakano, Director of Security. Additionally, John Phillips and Jimmy Jauregui of Securitas Inc. were on hand at the event. Mary Lou Dudas, Executive Director of the BID; Adrin Nazarian of Council District 4; and Bill Kysella, Neighborhood Prosecutor, also attended.
During the Open House, Phillips spoke to the team and congratulated them, before honoring Officer Christian Torres, who was named Office of the Quarter. Additionally, Officer Billy Flores was the winner of a raffle for new hires; he was presented with a 20" Samsung Color TV.
Renewal and Expansion Efforts Begin The BID has begun to work on a renewal and expansion effort. The current BID will end in December of 2004.

Surveys have been sent to all property and business owners in the BID as well as the expansion area. Please return your completed surveys by October 15th if you have not already.

Partnering with the DWP and the Los Angeles Conservation Corps, the Media District has planted nearly a hundred trees around the district in the past few weeks. A total of 300 trees are being planted total, and should be done by the end of the month.
The trees are Brisbane Box trees in most locations. Australian Willows are being planted where lines run overhead.
The trees and installation were paid for by DWP, the BID will only have to water and maintain the trees during their establishment period for 2 years. The project's design was by Suisman Urban Design in cooperation with the LACC, and the Media District's Campus Committee.
- The Santa Monica Boulevard Project will have it's kickoff meeting on Wednesday, October 22nd from 11:30 to 2:00pm at CFI, 959 Seward St. Lunch will be served. Take the opportunity to learn about current initiatives on the Boulevard, and discuss some possible future improvements. Members of the BID and Suisman Urban Design have worked on preliminary designs and concepts including streetscape improve-ments and plans to underground utilities. - Kumquat trees have arrived and will be delivered in the coming weeks to fulfill the outstanding orders for the doorway citrus program. The nursery ran out of Calamondin Trees.
- Please plan to attend the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Halloween Party at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Thursday, October 30. Please call the Chamber at 323-469-8311 for more information.
- Local artist Cameron McNall's Shadow Art Project, which is installed on 7 rooftops throughout the Media District, has been featured in a book entitled "Outsize: Large Scale Graphic Design." The book is available in stores.
M. Garcia, S. Magana, J. Peoples, D. Tukes, Christian Torres, T. Willis, Billy Flores, B. Bolocks, A. Sosa, Kenneth Nakano, and Brian Tuck are the officers on the Hollywood Media District Safety Patrol Team, operated by Securitas Inc. Securitas took over the Media District's account at the beginning of August.
